Listing guidelines
Last updated: 22 October 2026
100 Plots is a map of the local businesses that make a city worth visiting. These guidelines explain what can be listed and how we check listings. You agree to them, along with our terms, when you claim a plot.
Who can have a plot
- Legal, genuine businesses, organisations and sole traders operating in the UK, in or serving the city you claim in.
- Shops, cafés, restaurants, pubs, makers, trades, services, attractions, studios, venues, practitioners and similar: anything a visitor or local might want to find.
- Businesses without premises (a mobile trader or a home-based service, for example) are welcome. Put your pin where you're based or work, and you can hide your address.
- One plot is one business. If you run more than one business, each needs its own plot.
What we don't list
- Anything illegal, or a business without the licences, registrations or permissions it needs.
- Adult content or services, including sexual services, adult entertainment and explicit material.
- Gambling, betting, lotteries or gaming for money.
- Weapons, ammunition or anything designed to harm people, apart from legal sporting, collecting or kitchen equipment sold responsibly.
- Misleading or false content: fake reviews or awards, invented prices or offers, claims you can't back up, or pretending to be another business.
- Content that's hateful, discriminatory, threatening or offensive, or that harasses anyone.
- Pyramid schemes, get-rich-quick offers, and placeholder listings that hold a plot without a real business behind them.
Photos and text
- Use real photos of your business, premises, team, products or work. No stock images posing as your business, and no photos of other businesses.
- Only upload photos and logos you have the right to use: ones you took yourself, or ones you have permission to use. If people can be recognised in a photo, make sure they're happy for it to be shown.
- Keep descriptions accurate and about your business. Prices, offers and opening hours should be up to date.
- Links should go to your own website and social accounts.
How we check listings
We check every new listing before it goes live, usually within two working days. If something needs changing, we'll email you to say what. Changes to a live listing may be checked again.
How removals work
- Small problems (a photo you can't use, an out-of-date offer): we'll email you and ask you to fix it, usually within 7 days. If it isn't fixed, we may hide the part of the listing that breaks the guidelines, or the whole listing.
- Serious problems (illegal content, a business we don't list, deliberately misleading content, or anything that could harm people): we may remove the listing straight away, then email you to explain why.
- Repeated or serious breaks of these guidelines: we may end your subscription. If a listing is removed because it breaks these guidelines, you won't get a refund for the rest of the year.
- If we remove a listing for any other reason, we'll refund the unused part of your year (see the terms).
If you think we've made a mistake, reply to our email or contact [email protected] and we'll look at it again.
Reporting a listing
If you see a listing that breaks these guidelines or uses your photos or content without permission, email [email protected] with a link to the listing and what's wrong. We'll look into it and take it down if needed.
